Leader of Opposition in Tripura Legislative Assembly Manik Sarkar has alleged that several CPI(M) leaders and workers have been murdered in the state in the last four years of the BJP-IPFT regime.

“In the last four years, 24 CPI(M) leaders and workers were killed and justice was not done to anyone. Things will not proceed the way they (BJP-IPFT) think”, Mr. Sarkar said. Talking to reporters at Kamalpur in South Tripura district on Monday.

However, the ruling government vehemently denied allegations of political killings in Tripura after the 2018 assembly elections. BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, “This was the first time, there was no political killing after the 2018 assembly elections. Earlier, we used to see heavy post-poll violence.”

Criticizing the BJP-IPFT government, the former Chief Minister said that there was one-sided rule in the state. He said, ‘The voice of the people is being throttled. Elections are not being held in a free and fair manner…”

Mr Sarkar said those who were fooled before the 2018 assembly elections are beginning to realize that they have made a big mistake.

“The BJP MLA, who left the party and joined Congress Openly criticizing the BJP led government. Now, they are regretting joining the saffron party with folded hands”, he said, in an indirect reference to Sudip Roy Burman and Ashish Saha leaving the saffron party and joining the Congress.

“A new storm is brewing in the state. Now is the time to protest the wrongdoings of the government,” he said.
