Harris opened the batting in four of the five Tests in the Ashes series around the New Year and dropped Usman Khawaja for the fifth Test and the recent tour of Pakistan.
Khawaja scored two centuries and two scores in the 90s as Australia won the three-match series 1–0 in Pakistan, closing him as David Warner’s opening partner for the foreseeable future.
Others who played a role in Australia’s 4–0 Ashes win that the Test side missed out on were fast bowlers Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser, although the former would tour with T20 and “A” squads as well.
Spinner Mitchell Swepson, who made his debut on the Pakistan tour, has retained his place in the Test team.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, who is yet to be limited at the Test level, was included in all four teams.
The ‘A’ team will play two one-dayers in Colombo and two first-class matches in Hambantota in June.
Chief selector George Bailey said in a news release, “It is incredibly exciting to have an Australia A component that gives players more flexibility and opportunities to be available and cross over to all teams.”
“It could be from a Test or white-ball preparation perspective or from an opportunity to impress at the international level.”
