It proved to be a dream start for KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants in Tata IPL 2023 as they thrashed David Warner-led Delhi Capitals by 50 runs at their home ground in Lucknow on April 1.
Losing the toss and electing to bat first, LSG scored a mammoth score of 193 runs losing 6 wickets. Thanks to West Indian star batsman Kyle Mayers who scored 72 off 38 balls and Nicholas Pooran who contributed a crucial 36 runs to the scorecard. Apart from these two players, no batsman could score more than 20 runs.
Chetan Sakaria and Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets each for Delhi Capitals, while spinners Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav bagged one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 194 runs, the Delhi Capitals openers faltered and wickets started falling rapidly. Captain David Warner, however, stood firm but saw wickets fall like a house of cards.
Warner, who brought up his half-century, was the only DC batsman to cross 50. Apart from him Riley Rossouw contributed 30 runs.
However, it was a lucky day for Englishman Mark Wood, who dominated the game with 5 wickets for LSG. Wood completed his fifty by dismissing Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Akshar Patel and Chetan Sakaria.
Apart from Wood, other successful bowlers for the LSG include Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan who took two wickets each.
On April 2, Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals at 3:30 PM (IST) in Hyderabad, while Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Mumbai Indians at 7:30 PM (IST) in Bengaluru.
