The new Grand Vitara will be built by Toyota and will share its underpinnings with the recently unveiled urban cruiser Hyder SUV. The global debut of the Maruti Grand Vitara will take place on July 20. Both the SUVs are expected to go into production next month.

The name Grand Vitara is not new to Maruti – the second generation Grand Vitara (XL7) and the third generation Grand Vitara SUV were sold as outright imports in India. The upcoming midsize SUV will have India as a manufacturing hub and will be exported to several overseas markets.

The second generation Brezza SUV also dropped the “Vitara” prefix, allowing Maruti to use the branding for the upcoming car.

The Maruti Grand Vitara, now in its fifth generation, is a sister model of the Toyota Hyder and will be built at the latter’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka. Both the SUVs will use Suzuki’s Global-C platform, which has already formed the basis for popular models, such as both generations of Brezza for India, the S-Cross, and the outgoing Maruti Grand Vitara SUV, which has been sold overseas. went.

The SUV will also share powertrains – 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and 1.5-litre strong hybrid powerplant options – and will also have an AWD option.

While both the SUVs will look more or less the same from the side and rear, their front styling is expected to be different. The styling bits of the Grand Vitara will be similar to the Suzuki Acros SUV sold in Europe. Other aspects like body panels and interior elements will be similar in both the SUVs as well.

The feature list will also be the same on the Hyryder and the Maruti Grand Vitara. With equipment like panoramic sunroof, premium leather interior, soft-touch dashboard and full hybrid powertrain, the new Grand Vitara will be the most technologically advanced and feature-rich SUV ever for India.

Maruti is expected to reveal more details about the new Grand Vitara SUV ahead of its global debut on July 20. Prices will be announced in the second half of August 2022 once the Toyota Haider prices are revealed.
