Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is all set to enter the Indian car market, as the country’s largest carmaker will unveil its first hybrid mid-SUV in India today (July 20). The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is based on the Toyota urban cruiser Haider, which was recently unveiled in India and will be built at the Japanese carmaker’s Karnataka facility under an agreement between the two automakers. So far, the Indian automaker has managed to keep the secrets for the upcoming model while grabbing the attention of SUV enthusiasts, revealing few details like tail light design, hybrid powertrain and a sunroof. Meanwhile, the company has started booking the new SUV for Rs 11,000.


The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is based on the Toyota Urban Cruiser hybrid SUV but will retain its unique identity with a few additional features. The new SUV will feature a redesigned front end with vertically-split headlamps that will continue to the rear end with the same spacing. Moreover, the mid-sized SUV leads Maruti Suzuki in quest for a new customer base.

Like all the recently launched Maruti Suzuki cars, the Grand Vitara will be packed with features complemented by plush interiors. The statement best comes with features like a heads-up display, a large panoramic sunroof, a first in this segment, a 360-degree parking camera, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and six airbags among many other features.

First of all, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is the first SUV from the Indian automaker to be blessed with a hybrid powertrain. The car is expected to get an Atkinson cycle motor with 1.5-litre displacement capacity. It is expected to be tuned to produce 115 PS of power combined with an electric motor. Also, the lower trims are expected to get a 1.5-litre NA engine with different tunings. In addition to this, the SUV will get an all-wheel-drive system that will make it better than some of its rivals.

Based on the rumors and information leaked earlier, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will cost around Rs 9.50 lakh, and the top variant, the SUV, will cost around Rs 16 lakh, which beats the competition by a good margin. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will compete against vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Jeep Compass, and others in the Indian market.
