Social media has changed the way consumers receive information. Over the years, it has become the channel of choice for information, yet it promotes fake news (OpEd page, Sept 7). There is no doubt that those who need reliable information will still pay for quality journalism. Social media is definitely not journalism and can never replace journalism.

A large section of Indians is hungry for authentic journalism, this is evident from the growth of online news portals. With the mainstream media distrust comes with the ‘moral precept’ that goes in the form of reporting. Journalists should avoid the pretense of making a judgmental decision between right and wrong.
