Mohanlal’s trainer, Ayans Antony, spills the beans on the actor’s high-intensity workout videos that are trending on social media
When Ayans Antony met Mohanlal for the first time, he was floored. “I forgot I had to train him. It took me a few minutes to come to my senses,” he says.

Mohanlal has been sharing videos of his high-intensity fitness regimen – from lifting weights to bench press – on social media, prompting fans to “keep exercising every day for a healthy mind and a healthy body”. Their regular workout sessions last about an hour and a half, Ayans says, often at the end of a day’s shoot.
“In a typical session, we start with a warm-up and stretching. Core conditioning and balance are also absolutely essential. We also add progressively overloaded forms of resistance training to most workout days,” says Ains.

A friend introduced Ayans to Mohanlal in 2018 when he was shooting for Priyadarshan’s period film Marakkar. “We had to build stamina for the character to build up his core strength, as it involved a lot of action sequences. It helped that he was extremely flexible, but we did special cardio workouts for two muscle groups. “
Mohanlal usually discusses his characters with Ayans, which helps him to tone up physically for the roles. “whereas marakkar required power, Drishyam He needed to be fit. He was tired after a long day and still came for training. It was only after I told him that we could leave him easily,” says Ayans.
Whenever Mohanlal goes to Kochi, the two work out together. Ains, 28, says, “I’m amazed at how Layton keeps up with me in terms of stamina. “I am inspired by his impeccable work ethic. He always motivates himself to do more.” Ayans, who started working out at the age of 13, has built a career as a celebrity fitness trainer who has clients across the globe.
