Millennial Stunner

As India matures into a republic, one would assume that acceptance of democracy would also have hardened. But the latest results from the YouGov-Mint-CPR Millennial Survey shatter any such certainty. Of the 12,900 respondents in 206 cities, 51% were found to support authoritarianism and the idea of not only abolishing parliament, but also in favor of a strong leader, technocrat or command of the military. What was even more acute was the survey finding that supporters of all our political parties were inclined towards it. The sample of digital natives also included pre- and post-millenniums, and those who supported the Congress were slightly more likely to express undemocratic views than supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

The attitude exposed by the survey is disturbing, to say the least, and should be a matter of introspection for every citizen of this country. Since the time of our freedom movement, the liberation provided by democratic self-government has been the underlying theme of our efforts to fulfill our collective aspirations. Those who are free to choose and hold their leadership to certain conditions are also expected to freely exercise their vital faculties in a way that can sharpen the mind and generate ideas. conditions that affect human progress. However, China-jealousy may have heightened the appeal of dictatorship in India. However, at some point, China’s lack of independence will probably get in its way. Intuitively, combining everyone’s ideas should ultimately work better than single-origin commands. like markets
