Taste Atlas recently announced its list of the world’s best-rated vegetarian dishes. Around seven Indian cuisines from India have found a place in the top 50 list. The famous Maharashtrian dish, Misal Pav took the top spot from India and ranked 11th in the list of best traditional vegetarian dishes in the world.
Though a Maharashtrian dish, this dish is commonly seen and made in every household as a breakfast, snack or main course. It is also a common Indian street food and office canteen. For example, the two main components are a curry made of sprouted moth beans, topped with chives, onions, chillies and potatoes and eaten with pav or bread slices. Misal Pav comes in different varieties like Kolhapuri Misal, Puneri Misal, Khandeshi Misal, Nashik Misal and Ahmednagar Misal. Apart from this, the website has also listed the names of some famous restaurants where people can enjoy this dish. Mumbai’s Aaswad, Vinay Health Home, Shree Datta Snacks, Mamedar Misal and Nashik’s Sadhna Restaurant are some of them. Earlier in 2015, the Foodie Hub Awards in London named misal pav as the world’s tastiest vegetarian dish, reported Times Now.
Other Indian dishes in the list of world’s best rated vegetarian dishes include aloo gobi at number 20 followed by rajma at number 22. At number 27, Tamil Nadu’s famous Masala Masala Vada finds a place. Bhelpuri and Rajma Chawal come in at number 37 and 41 on the list of best rated vegetarian dishes in the world.
Other global dishes that made it to the top 10 include olive parvardeh, guacamole, muhammara, tempeh goreng, badrizani, hummus, spaghetti aglio e olio, tagliatelle ai fungi, baba goush and mujaddara.
