The commerce ministry on Sunday said that there is no restriction on the export of onions and India has exported them worth USD 523.8 million during April-December 2022.
It states that only the export of onion seeds is prohibited.
“The government has not restricted or restricted the export of onions,” the ministry said in a statement.
In December 2022, onion exports are set to increase by nearly 50 per cent to USD 52.1 million.
During April-December in the current financial year, exports grew by 16.3 per cent to $523.8 million.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet on Saturday that there is no restriction on export of onions from India to any country and making misleading statements to the contrary is unfortunate.

The statement comes after a tweet by NCP leader Supriya Sule on February 25 on onion exports.
