Miss World finale postponed due to COVID-19 fears

The conclusion of the Miss World beauty pageant has been postponed due to the health and safety interest of the contestants, staff and general public. The finale was scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico.

In a press release, Miss World announced, “After a meeting with the virologists and medical experts appointed to oversee the Miss World 2021 event and after discussions with the Puerto Rico Department of Health, the event’s organizers have been postponed globally.” The broadcast will conclude at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days.”

The decision was taken after several contestants tested positive. “Once and only when the contestants and staff are cleared by health officials and consultants, will the contestants and concerned staff return to their countries,” Miss World said in a statement.

“We look forward to the return of our contestants (who we know and love) to compete for the Miss World crown,” said Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Limited.

Miss India World contestant Manasa Varanasi has tested positive, and she is currently in isolation in Puerto Rico, according to a statement by Femina Miss India, the national arm of the beauty pageant.

Thanking Ms Morley for canceling the finale, the national beauty pageant has said Miss World prioritized the health of the team and other contestants. “At the Miss India Organisation, we were in great disbelief that Ms. Varanasi might not be able to come on the world stage despite her hard work and dedication, although her safety is a top priority for us.

“We pray for his health and wish all those infected a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
