A spokesperson for the Missionaries of Charity told IE that while they are not involved in any religious conversion activity, there are 24 girls in the house, who live with them and follow their practices as they see them do. “We have not converted anyone or forced anyone to marry into Christianity,” the spokesman said.

Officials probing the matter said that as per the complaint, the organization forced a Hindu girl to marry into a Christian family as per Christian tradition and further alleged that she was served non-vegetarian food despite being a Hindu. Assistant Commissioner of Police SB Kumawat said the district collector had issued directions to register a case against the organization after a committee probed the allegations made by Trivedi.

The committee was constituted by the District Collector after the complaint of the Child Welfare Committee. A team comprising members from several departments investigated the allegation, following which a complaint was registered. The police will investigate the allegations and collect evidence to see if the arguments are true,” Kumawat told The Indian Express.

Vadodara Police Commissioner Shamsher Singh told IE that the police have started a probe into the alleged conversion of a woman from Punjab, which has been taken up by the committee. However, investigation is going on in this matter.
