Mob disrupts Christmas program in Haryana school

A group of people shouting pro-Hindu slogans on Friday evening disrupted the Christmas program at a private school in Haryana’s Pataudi. Organizers of House of Hope, a social and religious organization, described the incident as “tragic”, but did not file a formal police complaint.

A Christmas meet was being organized at a primary school in Pataudi, in which some men and women in a primary school in Pataudi climbed onto the stage and grabbed the mike and raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram”. “Long live Mother India”. One of the men then announced from the stage that he wanted the welfare of the whole world, but not through conversion.

“When we started the program men and women were sitting inside. We asked him if he had any objection, but he said we can continue. But while the program was going on, they took our mic and raised slogans. They didn’t allow us to continue with our program,” said one of the members of the House of Hope Hindu on the phone.

He said that a member of his group, a local resident of Pataudi, conducted the program at his own expense.

He described the incident as “tragic”, saying that every religion has the right to celebrate its festival, but added that the group was not “very interested” in filing a first information report. “Such incidents are on the rise. It is sad,” he remarked.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media in which men and women are seen raising slogans.

Gurugram police said that they have not received any complaint in this regard.

The incident comes amid the ongoing controversy in Gurugram over the Muslim community’s opposition to offering Jumma prayers in the open. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal had also said earlier this month that offering prayers in public places would not be tolerated.

On July 4, a mahapanchayat was organized in Pataudi, in which speakers made provocative speeches targeting a religious minority. One person was arrested after an FIR was registered in this connection.
