Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said that the Modi government is committed to uphold and strengthen the independence and autonomy of the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and all other investigative institutions.
Singh, during the ceremonial ceremony at the CBI headquarters, said zero tolerance for corruption, transparency and citizen centricity are the three “main mantras” that determine the government’s administrative approach.
He said that irrespective of ideological beliefs, everyone should work towards strengthening institutions like CBI. He said that they contribute to the country’s resolve to achieve indestructibility in the society.
Singh said that since 2014 several reforms have been taken including amendment in Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, establishment of Lokpal office and making public all government decisions including ACC.

He said that over the years more than 1,500 laws have been abolished and various laws have been simplified.
Expressing concern over the withdrawal of consensus from the CBI to probe the cases by some states, Singh called for a comprehensive introspection. He said they have to clarify whether they trust the CBI or not, or whether they trust it selectively.
The minister said that many cases are referred to CBI by the states under public pressure, which shows that people have more faith in CBI. He said that even complex and urgent cases are handed over to the premier investigating agency by the judiciary.
The Minister also presented Police Medals for Meritorious Service to 47 CBI officers and called upon them to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
