Bangalore:

A 23-year-old man in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district died by suicide after copying a scene from the Telugu horror film ‘Arundhati’, which he watched at least 15 times, police said today.

Family sources said the “addiction to movies” was the reason why Renuka Prasad dropped out after class 11, even though she was among the toppers till class 10. His parents tried to push him away but the passion remained.

She recently asked ‘Arundhati’ to imitate self-immolation, but her parents managed to get her to talk till two days back, it is learned.

Like the protagonist of the film, Prasad poured about 20 liters of petrol on his body on the outskirts of the village on Wednesday. Some passersby saw him in flames and rushed him to the hospital. He had suffered 60 percent burns and died the next day.

Some reports state that he made a video of him telling his father about his “salvation” plan.
