Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that soon more leopards will come to the state’s Kuno Palpur National Park.

Eight Namibian cheetahs were released into the park last September as part of an ambitious project to revive the country’s extinct cheetah population.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Indore on Tuesday, Chouhan said that non-resident Indians (NRIs) attending the event should visit tourist attractions of Madhya Pradesh, including the tiger reserve.

He said, “I will call you to see the cheetahs in February. We are allowing (tourists to visit) from February.”

Chouhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi facilitated the import of cheetahs from Namibia, adding that “more cheetahs are coming from South Africa.”

The Chief Minister said that NRIs should set up a helpline for students from Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India who are studying abroad.

Seeing off the NRI guests at the end of the conference was painful, he compared the moment to a bride’s ‘vidai’ (when a bride leaves her parents’ home).

He said that the guests planting saplings at the Global Park here can track their growth through the QR code given to them.

The Chief Minister urged the NRIs to participate in the Global Investors Summit starting here on Wednesday and encourage others to invest in the state besides encouraging others to do so.
