In a virtual press meet on Thursday, AYUSH Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that performing Surya Namaskar on Makar Sankranti is more relevant in the current resurgence of COVID-19. “It is a proven fact that Surya Namaskar builds vitality and immunity and hence is able to keep corona away. We have set a target of 75 lakh people participating in the programme, but looking at the registration and our preparedness, I hope to cross the one crore mark,” he said.
He said, “The Ministry of AYUSH has started this program under the guidance and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

In this virtual meeting, Minister of State for AYUSH Mahendra Munjapara said that Surya Namaskar rejuvenates the mind and body. “Yoga effects on molecular genetics are being studied,” he said.
Secretary Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said that this program is a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. “This is Surya Namaskar for vitality,” he said.
All the major yoga institutes in India and abroad – Indian Yoga Association, National Yoga Sports Federation, Yoga Certification Board, FIT India, and many government and non-government organizations are participating in the event. Celebrities and sports personalities are expected to promote Surya Namaskar through video messages. Sportspersons and employees of SAI will also participate in the programme.

The participants and yoga lovers can register themselves on the respective portal and they will have to upload the videos of doing Surya Namaskar on January 14. The registration links are available on the respective websites and are widely distributed by the Ministry of AYUSH.
