A total of 2505 participants got job letters on the spot in the job fair held in the city on Tuesday.
It was jointly organized by the Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods Department, Mysore District Administration, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation and others at the exhibition ground.
There were 8,729 registrations for the job fair, of which 5,478 were male and 3,251 were female. While 1,867 men received job offers on the spot, 628 women were also recruited. In addition, 652 males and 248 females were selected for entrepreneurship training.
SA Ramdas, MLA, who addressed the job aspirants, said that the ‘Government-on-Wheels’, to publicize and popularize the various government programs and welfare measures launched for the benefit of the students and youth community The concept should be unveiled in due course.
It will provide all the information related to various schemes launched for the student community which they are not aware about. This includes job opportunities, scholarships and other information.
The legislator said that entrepreneurship training was as important as skill development and cited examples of some persons who had gone through such training provided by the government and who are now settled abroad and engaged in business. He said that entrepreneurship training would help in becoming job creators rather than job seekers.
Shri Ramdas said that so far 8 such job fairs have been organized and those who had become jobless during the pandemic saw it as a ray of hope and many got employed again. He called upon the student community and youth to strive to become entrepreneurs and stressed the importance of entrepreneurship training.
The participants of the job fair were informed that both the Center and the State have launched welfare measures and schemes especially for the benefit of girls and women and this includes loan facility at low interest without any guarantee.
Mayor Shivkumar, Deputy Mayor G. Roopa and officials from various government departments were present.
