Motorman Ashok Sharma, who was operating the local train, will be rewarded by the CR officials for his wisdom.
Motorman Ashok Sharma
Sharma said, “Khopoli-fast local train had left CSMT at 3.10 am. When it approached Sandhurst Road, I saw an obstacle on the track. Immediately, I applied the emergency brakes which slowed the train but could not stop it from hitting the barrel.
The barrel got crushed under the train but fortunately it did not damage any parts of the rake.
Sharma said, “Due to the loud noise after the train hit the barrel, many passengers panicked and jumped on the track after the train stopped. With their help the barrel was removed. It contained stones weighing about 15 to 20 kg.
Chief Public Relations Officer of CR Shivaji Sutar said, “RPF has registered a case against unknown persons under Section 154 of the Railways Act for endangering the safety of persons traveling by railways or acting negligently or against unknown persons. ”
“The RPF will scan the CCTV footage as well as interrogate the nearby people to trace the person behind this mischief,” the source said.
