Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday announced an honorarium of Rs 5000 per month to the priests of temples without land. Addressing a gathering after unveiling a 21-feet high metal statue of Lord Parashuram at an event called ‘Akshayotsava’ in the cave temple complex of Bhopal, the Chief Minister said that the lessons of Parashuram would be included in the school curriculum.
He also said that a committee would be formed to stop the sale of land owned by temples, while scholarships would be introduced for students studying Sanskrit. “The temples whose priests do not have any assets will be given an honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month. Along with this, there are also such temples which have a large amount of land. Chouhan said that the honorarium of priests in such temples would be arranged through the management of their land. He said that the entire arrangement of the temple should be in the hands of the priest and there would be no interference from the government.
“The government will not auction the temple land. Only priests will auction such land. A committee will be formed to suggest not to sell the temple land. Somewhere lands were sold and disturbances were reported.
Chouhan said that the temple land should not be sold but its management should be in the hands of priests. Emphasizing on the need of ritual performers and scholars to carry forward “Sanatan Sanskriti”, he said, “We have started the recruitment of Sanskrit teachers. We will appoint guest teachers for Sanskrit till the recruitment is completed. I will immediately I will call the course committee.And directed them to include lessons on Lord Parashuram in the syllabus.The program was attended by Swami Avdheshanand Giri, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Juna Akhara, Congress leader and former Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, State BJP chief VD Sharma besides some MLAs were present.
