The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), established in 1972, has been organizing the Golden Jubilee celebrations since Tuesday.
MPEDA President KN Raghavan will inaugurate the function in Vijayawada. National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) Chief Executive Suvarna Chandrappagari, Fisheries Commissioner K. Kanna Babu, MPEDA Secretary KS Pradeep, farmers and other stakeholders will participate in the programme.
Dr. Raghavan appreciates the steps being taken by MPEDA to promote diversified aquaculture in India and the steps being taken to develop seabass and mud crab culture in the country and to promote genetically improved tilapia (GIFT). Officials of MPEDA, Fisheries and NFDB will throw light on the schemes being implemented by the Central and State Governments for the aquaculture farmers in the state.
“Andhra Pradesh is a major contributor to MPEDA in exporting marine products to the US, Europe, Middle East and other countries. We want to increase production and exports from the state,” said an MPEDA official.
MPEDA officials said on Monday that the chairman of MPEDA is likely to interact with aquaculture farmers, exporters and other stakeholders during his maiden visit to Andhra Pradesh.
