According to an official statement, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take over the captaincy of the master franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the IPL 2022.
Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be only the third player to lead CSK.
According to the statement, Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.
Dhoni, who has been the captain of CSK since the league’s inception in 2008, may play in his last IPL this season. He has already retired from international cricket.
Dhoni captained 204 matches in the IPL with 121 wins, 82 losses and no results in one match with a win percentage of 59.60.
Under Dhoni, CSK have won the IPL title four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021), behind only Mumbai Indians, and have the highest win percentage of matches (64.83%) among all teams in the IPL.
He also holds the record for most appearances in the playoffs (eleven) and finals (nine) of the IPL.
Defending champions CSK will start their campaign against last edition’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday.
Former cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar picked Ruturaj Gaekwad, the leading run scorer of the previous IPL, to play a key role in CSK’s title defence.
He said, “Ruturaj Gaikwad is another player who has very few areas to improve. Nothing is really necessary as far as Gaikwad’s improvement is concerned. He has all the shots in the book, but most of all. The impressive aspect is his shot selection.” ,
“Whatever shot he plays, he is not intimidated. He is not afraid to play high shots when the need arises and his shot selection in the IPL has been very good.
India’s star all-rounder Jadeja has recently grabbed the No. 1 spot in the latest ICC Test rankings for all-rounders after his stellar performance in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
