Mukesh Ambani remembers Rahul Bajaj, ‘one of India’s most respected industrialists’

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said on Wednesday that former Bajaj Auto chairman Rahul Bajaj was one of India’s most respected industrialists. Speaking at the Asia Economic Dialogue, Ambani said, “Let me begin by paying tribute to my very good friend and a distinguished citizen of Pune, Mr. Rahul Bajaj, who passed away recently.” He further added, “He (Rahul Bajaj) was my senior and one of the most respected industrialists of India. My heartfelt condolences to his family.”

driving force

Rahul Bajaj passed away on Saturday, February 12 at the age of 83. He was at the helm of one of the most popular two wheeler companies in the country for nearly five decades. He had pneumonia and also had heart problems. Dr Purvez Grant, Managing Trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic said that he was hospitalized for the past one month.

Rahul Bajaj was one of the longest serving Presidents in Corporate India. He was the driving force behind making the Bajaj brand a household name in India. The blockbuster models of Bajaj Chetak and Priya became India’s favorites within a few years of launch. In the 1990s, two-wheelers were synonymous with Bajaj in India.

‘The planet Earth is facing an existential crisis’

Speaking about why the world needs green energy, Ambani said, “Climate change today is the biggest threat to the future well-being of mankind.”

Elaborating further, he said, “… the planet Earth is facing an existential crisis due to climate change. The climate crisis is essentially an energy crisis. The excessive use of fossil fuels over the past two hundred years has affected the planet’s fragile ecology. Of course, it has brought prosperity to a large section of the global community. But this prosperity has been at the cost of the planet’s environment and ecosystems … and is therefore not sustainable.”

He said that the transition from old energy to new, green and clean energy is not an option, it is an urgent necessity.

“Our survival depends on how quickly we adopt planet-friendly renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydrogen. One more thing: energy change will also determine geopolitical change in the 21st century.”

“When India will not only become self-reliant in green and clean energy, but also become a major exporter, it will help India to emerge as a global power,” Ambani said.
