Mumbai:
Reliance Industries (RIL), headed by richest Indian Mukesh Ambani, has bought an ultra-luxury Rolls Royce hatchback worth Rs 13.14 crore.
According to officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), this is one of the most expensive car purchases ever made in the country.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan petrol model car was registered by RIL on January 31 at Tardeo Regional Transport Office in South Mumbai, officials said.
The car had a base price of Rs 6.95 crore when it was first launched in 2018, but auto industry experts say that customized modifications would have increased the price significantly.
The company has opted for “Tuscan Sun” paint for the 12-cylinder car weighing over 2.5 tonnes and producing 564 bhp power, and has also received a special number plate, RTO officials said. .
For a car whose registration is valid till January 30, 2037, a one-time tax of Rs 20 lakh has been paid by RIL, and another Rs 40,000 has been paid for road safety tax.
An RTO official said that this could also be the most expensive car bought in India.
RIL has also paid Rs 12 lakh for the VIP number for the new car of its chairman and managing director. Officials said the number ends with “0001.”
He said that usually a VIP number costs Rs 4 lakh, but since the number chosen in the current series was already taken, a new series had to be started.
With written permission from the transport commissioner, RTO offices can start a new series to specify the registration mark 0001, for which the applicant will have to pay three times the fee specified for the regular number, he said.
The Rolls Royce Cullinan was launched in India in 2018 as a hatchback, capable of handling rough and rough roads, and will be the third Cullinan model in the Ambani/RIL garage.
Some other industrialists and Bollywood celebrities also follow the same model.
According to the British manufacturer’s website, the Cullinan is Rolls-Royce’s first all-terrain SUV.
There are many expensive luxury cars in RIL’s garage. A few years back, it bought one of the most sophisticated armored vehicles for Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani.
The company has also provided a BMW in addition to the latest high-end Morris garage cars of the Gloster model for the police personnel deployed to protect the Ambani family.
