Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav may join BJP today as the saffron party has broken the SP camp.

In a major setback to the Samajwadi Party ahead of the elections, Aparna Yadav, daughter-in-law of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, is set to join the BJP on Wednesday, in a move that is being seen as tit. Many defectors of the saffron party joined hands with Akhilesh Yadav.

Aparna Yadav, who is married to Prateek, son of Mulayam and Sadhna Gupta, comes from a Thakur-Bisht background like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Daughter of former journalist Arvind Singh Bisht, who later became Information Commissioner, Aparna Yadav has her roots in Uttarakhand. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Politics from Manchester University, UK.

Though she never held any position of responsibility in the SP, she contested the 2017 assembly elections on a party ticket and lost to Rita Bahuguna Joshi from Lucknow Cantt. Now MP Joshi is seeking ticket from BJP for her son from this seat.

Aparna Yadav runs Baware, an organization that works for women’s issues and also has a shelter for cows in Lucknow.

She made headlines in the past for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘development initiatives’. He also donated Rs 11 lakh for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

This decision of Aparna Yadav is also a surprise for the Samajwadi Party, especially at a time when the family feud between Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav is over.

Sources tell CNN-News18 that he was promised a Legislative Council seat after the election, but the deal seems to have failed.

BJP leader Arun Yadav, who is also the Haryana BJP’s state in-charge, tweeted that Aparna joining the BJP will happen at 10 am on Wednesday in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav had dismissed the news as an internal matter and assured that all is well in the family.

Voting in UP in seven phases from February 10 to March 7; The results will come on March 10.
