with the Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai With fire brigade Hemant Parab retiring at the end of October, the process of selecting his successor has begun. In all likelihood, the senior-most Deputy Chief Fire Officer – SY Manjarekar – will head the fire department.
waiting in the wings
Two senior officers of the Indian Forest Service – KP Singh and Sunil Limaye – are due to retire on 30 September. Limaye holds the key portfolio of Chief Wildlife Warden. After their retirement, two IFS officers – Shomita Biswas and Maheep Gupta – will be promoted to the rank of PCCF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests).
facing neglect
Jail appears to be one of the most neglected departments of the state government. After Additional DG Atulchandra Kulkarni went on central deputation earlier this year, Additional DG (Wireless) Sunil Ramanand was asked to take charge. Fifteen days ago, state CID chief Ritesh Kumar was given additional charge of the department. Meanwhile, at the ministry level, the department was not headed after additional chief secretary, appeals and security, Nitin Gadre, who was given the prison department’s report. But on Friday, the state government appointed Sham Tagde to the post.
resume closed work
A few months back, BMC joint commissioner Ramesh Pawar had gone on deputation to the Nashik corporation as the commissioner. Traditionally being the rank of an IAS officer, the appointment faced a lot of opposition from the cadre. When Eknath Shinde Devendra Fadnavis government came to power, appointed Chandrakant Pulkundwar to the post which resulted in Pawar coming back. However, Pawar did not suffer much. A Joint Commissioner (Reforms) when he left for Nashik, Pawar has now got the same post.
No ‘holding’ office
Even though the wait for transfers has been long for Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the state, it has been particularly difficult for some. One case pertains to a senior IPS officer from Mumbai, who vacated his office about a month and a half ago assuming that the time for transfers was near. Since then, the officer has been visiting his office twice a week, while away for the better part.
