Mumbai’s fresh Covid-19 cases drop below 1,000 mark, positivity rate at 2.29%

827 more people tested positive for Covid-19 Mumbai In the last 24 hours, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Thursday. The city also saw seven deaths due to the infection during the same period.

This marks a drop of 301 cases from a day earlier, taking the daily tally again below 1,000.

On Wednesday, the financial capital had reported 1,128 cases and 10 fatalities after recording 803 infections and seven fatalities on Tuesday.

The cumulative Covid-19 tally in Mumbai has reached 10,49,348, while the death toll has risen to 16,647. The daily positivity rate (cases detected per 100 tests), is 2.29%.

In the last 24 hours, 36,082 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city, nearly 10,000 fewer than the previous day, taking their cumulative count to 1,54,23,088.

It said that 1,366 more patients were discharged during the day, taking the number of cured cases to 10,22,292. The city’s coronavirus recovery rate is 97%. The case doubling rate jumped to 623 days in Mumbai, while the growth rate was 0.11% between January 27 and February 2.

Mumbai now has 7,601 active Covid-19 cases. According to the bulletin, 719 of the 827 new patients, or about 87%, were asymptomatic.

In addition, only 105 patients were hospitalized and 26 were placed on oxygen support. Also, as per the bulletin, out of the total 37,279 Covid-19 hospital beds in the city, only 1,768 are occupied.

At present, only three buildings in the city have been sealed, with no containment zones in slums and ‘chawls’ (old row houses).

On January 7, Mumbai had recorded the highest number of 20,971 cases during the coronavirus third wave, which began on December 21, 2021, according to Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

Last year, Mumbai recorded the highest number of 11,163 daily cases on April 4 during the second wave of the pandemic.
