Investor Mahesh Murthy on Friday claimed that he was not referring to Zilingo co-founder Ankiti Bose in an article, prompting Bose to file a defamation suit against him.
On 20 April, Bose filed a $100 million lawsuit alleging that the statue had caused damage to his “name, reputation and reputation and image”. Bose apologized to Murthy. Article published in Outlook Business Magazine on March 1, refers to “a woman ran a popular fashion portal and took Sequoia’s money”. Murthy has said that he was not referring to Bose. At least 35 women founders of fashion businesses have been supported by this VC fund, Murthy said in a statement.
“If the complainant is saying the piece refers to her, then she agrees that she committed misconduct, so there is no defamation. If the complainant is saying it doesn’t and I am saying the same thing, then no defamation The complainant cannot make two contrary claims, unless she is merely seeking cheap publicity.”
While Murthy denied the reference to Bose in his outlook piece, he urged the need for regulatory scrutiny of Zilingo.
Murthy also did not miss the opportunity to ask a few questions to the investors and board of Zilingo.
“The reports of financial fraud by this complainant in the last one year have damaged the reputation of both the countries. Can you investigate this to get to the bottom of the matter?”
Murthy also asked Jilingo’s investors to publish their investigative reports.
“You guys have investigated, investigated and studied the reports which clearly showed multiple cases of financial impropriety by the complainant which allegedly led to your dismissal from the company. Your reputation is going down here Why are you all silent? Who are you protecting? Why didn’t you file a case to recover the money?” Murthy asked.
In a statement to Mint on April 28, Bose declined to comment further. “I have full faith in the ability of the judicial authorities to determine the merits of my complaint. I will not be honoring Mr. Murthy with any more air time at my expense,” Bose said in a statement to Mint. ”
Earlier on April 21, Bose had argued that the description in the article was very specific about him and could not be meant for anyone else.
