Revathi Viswanathan aka Reva made her debut as a music director in the Tamil film industry with Vijay Sethupathi’s Mugees, which will release in theaters tomorrow.
One of the first songs that director Kartik Swaminathan gave to composer Reva for the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer. mugizhi, which released this Friday, was about a family that bonds with a puppy.

Reva composed a three-minute song which made the team happy. However, when they went to shoot, there was a problem: the reactions that Scooby, the role played by Puppy, didn’t sit well with the song.
This put both Kartik and Reva in a tight spot, and they decided to do something unconventional: shoot the entire song, and then compose the tune. “Through the long footage, I sat down and composed the graph that the puppy follows in the film,” recalls Reva, seated comfortably at her uncle Ramanathan’s Nadbindu recording studio in KK Nagar.
The song she is referring to is ‘Mayakara’.

Although music was always in the background, Reva ventured into fashion technology: she graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Chennai and worked in the clothing business for a few years before returning to her first love: music.
