Elon Musk-Twitter The saga – this has quickly turned into one – has taken many twists and turns. To give you a quick recap, here’s what happened so far: musk acquired 9.1% stake in Twitter, and became the largest single shareholder; Twitter announced that Musk would be joining the board of directors and there were some murmurs of ‘what’s going on’. Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal It was then revealed that Musk had said no to the board sire—those murmurs became audible whispers. And then Musk – in his own words – “made an offer”. Not to join the board but actually acquired Twitter for close to $43 billion. No more whispers and murmurs, now it was a complete commotion “what’s up”. Now, we’re in a will, won’t that platform or will they (Twitter) or won’t sell?
If — and it’s a big if at the moment — Musk does indeed acquire Twitter then that is bound to change. Why? Because Tesla CEO has made its feelings very clear about some things with twitter. There shouldn’t be sweeping changes, but if Musk’s takeover bid is successful, here’s how some things could change on Twitter.
The Edit button may finally make its way
it won’t because Elon Musk Took a ‘demand’ for it but he has been vocal about the need for an edit button. As he became the largest shareholder, Musk made a tweet asking who wanted the edit button. So yes, we can expect the edit button to come but Twitter has been working on it for a while now.
Content moderation may change on Twitter
In his own words, Elon Musk is a “free speech absolutist”. Musk has expressed his displeasure over Twitter’s moderation policies. The biggest was when the then US President Donald Trump was banned from the stage. Earlier this year in March, Musk put out a poll on Twitter asking whether the platform upheld the principle of freedom of expression. “Given that Twitter serves as a de facto public town square, failing to adhere to the principles of freedom of expression fundamentally undermines democracy,” he said. “What should be done?”. So yes, Musk can change the content moderation policies on Twitter.
The Solution to Twitter’s “Single Most Annoying Problem”
Spam accounts, or spambots, according to Musk, are the most annoying thing about Twitter. A follower on Twitter told Musk, “Elon, you need to do something about these crypto spam bots. They’re really annoying. Verification to prove you’re a real *real* human being.” Improving the system will help in this.” Musk responded, saying it was “the most troubling problem”. So if you own Twitter, you’re bound to solve the problem, no?
A ‘more’ open-source Twitter: Algorithm changing
Twitter is, in part, an open source platform – some of its technology is available for the public to view and even replace. In another tweet, Musk asked his followers whether Twitter’s algorithms should be open source or not. At a TED conference, Musk elaborated on it, saying it should be more open source because “there’s no manipulation of proxies, either algorithmically or manually.” Perhaps the algorithm could change in accordance with Musk’s ‘vision’ of ‘unlocking Twitter’s extraordinary potential’.
