New Delhi: English novelist Namita Gokhale, Bengali playwright Bratya Basu, and writers Ambai, George Onakkur and Wali Mohammad Kashtwari was among 20 authors whose works were declared winners on Thursday Sahitya Akademi Awards for 2021.
Spread across 20 languages, the awards include seven books of poetry, two novels, five short stories, two plays and one biography, autobiography, epic poetry and criticism. A statement from the Sahitya Akademi said the awards for Maithili, Manipuri, Gujarati and Urdu would be announced later.

Onakkur, 80, is a two-time recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award and is known for his novels, short stories, film scripts and a travelogue.
Tamil feminist writer CS Lakshmi, popularly known as Ambai, whose writings have challenged the stereotypes of women, received the award for her short story collection ‘Sivappu Kazuthudan’. oru pachaparvay‘ And she is the fourth woman from Tamil Nadu to receive this award.
