Narada sting: ED names TMC ministers Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee in chargesheet

The Enforcement Directorate has named two sitting West Bengal ministers – Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee – in its charge sheet in the Narada sting operation case.

Trinamool ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Firhad Hakim, MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee were arrested on May 17 by the CBI, which is probing the Narada sting tape case on a 2017 order of the high court.

He was granted bail by a special CBI court on May 17 itself, though the High Court stayed the order that sent him to judicial custody. Modifying his earlier order of stay on bail, he was put under house arrest by the High Court on May 21.

Journalist Mathew Samuel of the web portal Narada News had conducted a Narada sting operation in 2014, in which some people like TMC ministers, MPs and MLAs were seen taking money in return for favors from representatives of a fake company.

The four arrested leaders were then ministers in the Mamata Banerjee government. Before the 2016 assembly elections in West Bengal, the sting operation was made public.
