The Beating Retreat marks the end of the Republic Day celebrations. This year the celebrations are a bit different as the country is celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 years of Independence. The musical contingent of the Indian Armed Forces consists of 44 buglers, 75 drummers, and 16 trumpets as they chime in sync and play 26 melodies.

This year, the government decided to replace the ‘Abide with Me’ hymn with C Ramachandra’s composition, ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logan’. However, the tune was played with a twist, as the new performance included a bell chime similar to the ‘Abide with Me’ hymn. The ceremony also included a light and sound show, using laser projection and narration in Hindi, celebrating India’s rich history and 75 years of independence.
