Asked whether his daughters would enter electoral politics, Chavan said it was for him and the Congress to decide.
Senior Maharashtra Congress leader Ashok Chavan on Sunday said it was natural for him that his next generation carry forward his family legacy in public life, but his daughters are no longer in politics.
Responding to Bharatiya Janata Party’s criticism that ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ was “hijacked” by children of politicians, Chavan said he had tweeted about walking with his two daughters Rahul Gandhi When the foot march resumed in Chavan’s home constituency Nanded.
“My father late SB Chavan was in public life for more than 50 years. I followed in his footsteps and it is only natural for me to feel that my next generation should continue the legacy. I had tweeted in that spirit,” said the former Maharashtra chief minister.
Chavan said that his daughters are not in politics now. “As they believed in the idea of ’Bharat Jodi Yatra’, they joined it. Let’s see what happens later,” he said.
Asked whether his daughters would enter electoral politics, Chavan said it was for him and the Congress to decide. Posting a tweet in Marathi on Wednesday, Chavan gave an analogy of birds spreading their wings as they grow and the “indescribable joy” when small children fly in the sky on their own.
