Two nature lovers in Kochi exploring different aspects of the city through its trees.
He has started the ‘Walk in Neighborhood’ initiative to understand the urban landscape and ecosystem in residential areas. “How many times have we tried to stop and look at the trees. Tree Walk is an effort to foster interesting conversations involving people who are passionate about the environment and look at trees.”
He has started a green journey with environmentalist Manoj Kumar IB, who is actively involved in creating ‘fruit forests’ in Ernakulam and outside. “The first neighborhood walk was organized on January 26 in Panampilly town. It focused on the blossoming stories of Konna (Cassia fistula) and the life around her. The effort was to experience the bloom of a seasonal tree and the flora and fauna life associated with it,” said Manoj Kumar.
Nature lovers plan for small groups of five to seven individuals who are keen to discover an ecosystem in a residential area. “We hope to do one walk every month in the next one year at selected places,” he added. The next phase of the event is scheduled for February 25.
