On May 17, the complainant woman had posted an advertisement for selling old clothes on the OLX app. On May 19, a call came from Andheri to a dealer of used clothes and furniture. She assured that she will buy all the used clothes that she intends to sell and that she will not need to search for buyers on the OLX app. The accused asked him to send pictures of old clothes on his WhatsApp.
On May 25, the accused contacted her over a WhatsApp call and told her that he was sending his staff to collect all the old clothes.
After that, he sends his QR code for scanning to make a payment of Rs 2 to ensure that the payment will be transferred by him to his e-wallet. As soon as he scanned the QR code, Rs 2 was deposited in his account. Later the accused sent her 11 QR codes and asked her to scan it. But, instead of the payment being credited to his e-wallet, a total of Rs 8.50 lakh was debited to the bank account linked to his e-wallet.
As soon as the complainant woman came to know that the dealer had cheated her, she immediately lodged a complaint with the Kharghar police.
