Navi Mumbai: Over 35 Nursery Plots still being potable under high-tension cables dismantled by CIDCO in 2014 water supply Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), workers say.
Many of these illegal nursery plots have been rented out for high profits to motor garages, marriage halls, cement manufacturing units and other such commercial enterprises.
“It is shocking that in Nerul, Belapur, Airoli and other areas where heavy commercialization is taking place, while NMMC is also supplying water to them, why is the civic authority not taking any action against such illegal nursery plots. Some of these nurseries have been converted into air-conditioned offices, whose rent is close to Rs 1 lakh per month.
NMMC deputy municipal commissioner Jaideep Pawar told TOI that he would look into the issue to investigate any irregularities.
Municipal executive engineer Arvind Shinde said that he would have to study the matter, while Additional Municipal Engineer Manoj Patil said that he would have to take information from CIDCO in this matter before taking appropriate steps.
However, activist Chouhan commented: “It is quite clear that in 2014 CIDCO declared these nursery plots null and void under high tension wires. However, NMMC continues to supply water to these sites which are making huge commercial profits. It is surprising that why NMMC is not taking possession of these plots and putting them to good public use. If the authorities are not taking action deliberately, then a criminal case should be registered against these illegal nursery operators.
TOI visited some of these nursery plots in Nerul with names like ‘Sukh-Shanti Nursery’, ‘Star Auto Garage’ which are going on with their business as the civic body has not intervened in the matter so far. has done.
Another city worker said: “Many of these nursery plots have a concrete fence around them, outside of which bold public notices have been displayed, to give the impression that these are their private property. Is NMMC afraid of taking action against them?
