Navratri 2022: Navratri is one of the most auspicious festivals of the Hindu community. It is celebrated twice a year. The first is called Chaitra Navratri, which is celebrated during spring, while the second is called Sharad Navratri, which is celebrated during autumn. This year Sharad Navratri will start from 26th September and end on 5th October.

During the festival, devotees worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga. They keep fast and perform rituals to please the goddess of strength, vitality and wisdom. One of the most essential rituals of Navratri is Kanya Pujan, which generally marks the end of the fast for the devotees.
Kanya Puja: Date and Time
Ashtami and Navami are the last two days of Navratri, during which Kanya Puja is performed. Devotees believe that Navratri fasts are incomplete without Kanya Puja. This year, Ashtami Tithi began at 5:17 pm on October 2 and ended at 3:07 pm on October 3. Navami Tithi will be effective between 3:07 pm on 3rd October and 12:50 pm on 4th October.

Kanya Puja: Worship Method
While performing Kanya Pujan, devotees worship 9 young girls in the age group of 2 to 10 years, who are considered as Kanjaks. These nine Kanjaks are revered as forms of Goddess Durga. Hence, during the ritual, the devotees wash the feet of the girls with water.

After that they do their tilak. Then, they tie a red thread (moli) around their wrists and make offerings to them. After the meal, the worshipers touch the feet of the girls to seek blessings. Then, they give them gifts.
