The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of a viral video in which hairstylist Jawed Habib is purportedly shown spitting on a woman’s hair. The video in question was shot during a workshop organized by Habib in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Responding to a news report about the viral video, the NCW on Thursday said on Twitter that its Chairperson Rekha Sharma A letter has been written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of UP, demanding action in this regard.
The letter said, “The Commission has taken this incident very seriously and not only condemns it in the strongest possible terms but also calls upon you to inquire into the veracity of this viral video for immediate action as per law/procedure.” Also demands immediate intervention.”

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma further said, “This incident also attracts violation of the guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, under which spitting in public is a punishable offense in the wake of the COVID pandemic. “
The commission has sought action taken/status report from the DGP of UP at the earliest.
Apart from this, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma has also written a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana urging him to take action against Javed Habib.

According to reports, NCW will also send a notice to hairstylist Jawed Habib seeking his reply in this regard.
