Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that countries have to make adaptation a core part of development policies and plans.
At the COP26 summit, Modi said, there is a need to include climate change adaptation policies in the school curriculum to make the next generation aware of the issues.
Highlighting India’s schemes like ‘Nal Se Jal’, Swachh Bharat Mission and Ujjwala Yojana, Modi said that these schemes have not only given adaptation benefits to the citizens but have also improved their quality of life.
From drinking water sources to affordable housing, everything needs to be made resilient against climate change, Modi said while detailing India’s vision and efforts to combat climate change.
On the sidelines of the COP26 climate summit, PM Modi today met his British counterpart Boris Johnson and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as green hydrogen, renewable energy and clean technology, economy and defence.
This was the first in-person meeting between Modi and Johnson after the British Prime Minister’s visit to India was canceled twice due to the Covid-19 pandemic earlier this year.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Johnson for successfully organizing COP26 and his personal leadership in global action for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
They reiterated India’s commitment to work closely with the UK on climate finance, technology, innovation and adaptation, green hydrogen, renewable and clean technologies, jointly under the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). The two Prime Ministers especially reviewed the implementation of the Roadmap 2030 priorities in the areas of business and economy, people-to-people, health, defense and security.
They expressed satisfaction at the progress in providing an advanced trade partnership, including the steps taken towards the commencement of free trade agreement negotiations, the release said.
