Labor sectors need to be modernized to meet current requirements, and workers should be prepared to change accordingly, Labor Minister V. Shivankutty has said. He was interacting with the members of Kerala Savari, the first online auto-taxi service of the public sector, here on Friday.
The minister said that if new skills are not developed and work is not modernized, the person will face job loss.
Like all employment sectors, the taxi sector was also facing challenges. If a safe mechanism for travel emerged, people would adopt it and stop using their own vehicles. The aim of Kerala Savari was to provide safe travel without ending disputes. The drivers who were the driving force of Kerala Savari could ensure that it became a safe service.
Kerala Savari was being launched in the capital city, and all auto-taxi operators should come forward to make it an online service, which got the attention of the entire country.
More than 500 drivers have completed the training as part of the Kerala Savari set up under the Motor Workers Welfare Fund Board and in collaboration with the State Planning Board and the Legal Metrology, Transport, IT and Police Departments.
