Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour, Gogoi asked Mandaviya to know his ministry’s stand on the students’ demand to postpone the NEET-PG 2023 exam by a few months.
“The exam is to be conducted on March 5 and it was announced five months ago. Students who had to appear for it (entrance test) are already preparing,” the minister said in his reply.
“First the exams were delayed by seven-eight months and later by four months… If I keep delaying, such a situation will come…” he said, adding, “It is very important to fix it.”
The minister said that it is very important to conduct the entrance examination on time.
Mandaviya said that for those who have not yet completed their internship, the cut-off date has already been extended. “I have extended the cut-off date so that all students get a chance to appear for the NEET-PG exam, clear it and get admission in PG (post-graduate medical courses),” he said.
A section of NEET-PG candidates are demanding postponement of the entrance exam citing delay in completion of their internship.
A group of doctors, including NEET-PG candidates, staged a protest under the banner of Federation of All at Jantar Mantar Road on Tuesday. India Medical Association (FAIMA) has demanded the government to postpone the entrance exam.
The ministry has extended the cut-off date for NEET-PG candidates to complete one-year compulsory internship from June 30 to August 11.
“Considering the fate of over 13,000 MBBS students in 5 States/UTs who were not eligible for #NEET PG 2023 exam due to delayed internship, MoHFW extends the last date for completion of internship for eligibility to 11th August 2023,” the ministry said in a tweet on Tuesday.
“More than 3,000 BDS students from States/UTs were not eligible for #NEET MDS 2023 exam due to delayed internship. To benefit them, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided to extend the last date for completion of internship for eligibility to 30 June 2023. Best wishes to all the candidates.”
