NEET-PG: Supreme Court asks Center to stop counseling

The Center has been directed to put on hold the counseling for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG till the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the validity of the Centre’s decision to introduce OBC and EWS reservation in All India Quota (AIQ) .

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said NEET-PG counseling will not start without its approval as the court is considering a petition against the Centre’s decision on medical admissions.

The bench said that if the counseling process goes on as per schedule, the students will face serious problems. The top court was told that it has been announced that the counseling will start from October 25.

Responding to this, the Center assured that the counseling process will not be resumed till the apex court’s decision comes.

The Centre’s assurance comes after senior advocate Arvind Duttar, appearing for some of the NEET aspirants, mentioned that till the court decides the pending batch of petitions challenging the July 29 notification, this academic year The whole process of reservation starts from there. Admission will be curtailed and cause serious prejudice to the students.

The Supreme Court was hearing petitions challenging the July 29 notices of the Center and the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) which mandated 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% for EWS category for admission in NEET for all medical seats. was granted.

The notice dated July 29 provides for reservation of 27 per cent for OBC and 15 per cent for EWS category for UG and 50 per cent PG All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS and MD/MS/MDS) with current academic effect. Session 2021-22.
