Washington [US], Aug 3 (ANI): Netflix has decided not to renew teen vampire series “First Kill” for a second season. The streamer released all eight episodes of the show’s first season in early June, nearly two months after the announcement.
Goodman, a cast member on the series, announced the cancellation in a post on his Twitter account.
He wrote, “To all the fans of ‘First Kill’; I have nothing but love for each and every one of you! Thank you all for taking the show as yours! It’s all worth the hard work and hours until the next project.”
According to Variety, Netflix is proud of the work that the producers, cast and crew put into the series, but the choice ultimately came down to cost versus viewership.
“First Kill”, based on a short story by Wei Schwab, follows Calliope (Imani Lewis) and Juliet (Sarah Katherine Hooks), two teenage girls who fall in love but come from rival families: that of a vampire hunter. One is a line, and the other is a line of bloodsuckers.
Along with MK xyz, Jonas Dylan Allen, Roberto Mendez, Gracie Dezney, Dylan McNamara, Dominic Goodman, Will Svensson, Aubian Wise, Philip Mullings Jr. and Elizabeth Mitchell also starred in the series. For Bellatrist Productions, Felicia D. Henderson, Schwab, Emma Roberts, and Karah Preece executive produced.
“First Kill” received lukewarm reviews from critics, who gave the show a 58 percent approval rating on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.
According to Variety, lead TV critic Caroline Framke expressed her displeasure, saying, “One can really sink their teeth in compared to a clumsy swing at relevance.” (ANI)
