According to the medical officials of KLS Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital, Belagavi, Mr. Dandgi suffered a serious head injury after falling at home while climbing stairs at Mahabaleshwar Nagar (Hanuman Nagar) in Belagavi. At the hospital, when he stopped responding to treatment and was declared brain dead, his family members were advised about organ donation, to which they immediately agreed.

After this all arrangements were made on a war footing. Organs were retrieved from Mr. Dandgi and immediately, a heart transplant was successfully performed at Kore Hospital. At the same time, his liver was airlifted from Samba Airport to Bangalore, each kidney was sent through the green corridor to SDM Hospital in Dharwad and Tatvdarsha Hospital in Hubli, where an organ transplant was done immediately.
