New textbooks emphasize cultural aspects to strengthen national identity

To improve the cultural understanding of students, the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS), 2022 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE), 2023, have been revised by the government, a PIB press release stated.

The new textbooks for classes 1, 2, 3 and 6 have been integrated with cultural aspects, recognising the importance of these aspects in strengthening the nation’s identity and culture. The textbooks also provide guidance to teachers on how to implement cultural education in schools.

In addition to the integration of cultural aspects in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the NCF-FS and NCF-SE also include capacity-building programmes*for teachers and teacher educators on NCFs integrate cultural education and local cultural contexts. The Ministry of Education has been conducting Kala Utsav since 2015, which provides a platform for the display of talent in various art forms and cultural practices by secondary stage students from across the country.

The students from remote parts are also given an opportunity to showcase their skills. Under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, various cultural events are organised, which aims to raise awareness about culture.
