Captain Virat Kohli praised his fast bowlers after the win and named Mohammed Shami among the top three fast bowlers in the world. Shami took eight wickets in the match, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj took five and three wickets respectively in the two South Africa innings.
“Absolutely world class,” Kohli said of Shami at the post-match presentation ceremony. “One of the best three fast bowlers in the world at the moment for me. The way he bowls on pitches that don’t offer much to others. Whatever pitch he bowls, it’s just because of him. Strong wrists, his seam position and his ability to hit the length consistently. (Hitting) areas where you can’t release the ball is absolutely his quality and for him to get 200 wickets and another impressive performance Very happy,” he said.
India won the last Test match played at Wanderers by 63 runs. On a treacherous pitch, which almost led to the cancellation of the match, India saw Virat Kohli’s fifties in the first innings and a couple of gritty innings from the Indian captain and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane in the second. with the bat. Shami then led the ball in South Africa’s second innings with a five-wicket haul as the hosts were all out for 177 in reply to a target of 241.
