New Zealand beat Netherlands in first T20
New Zealand bowled Netherlands for 132 on Thursday to win their Twenty20 by 16 runs.
The Hague: New Zealand bowled the Netherlands for 132 to register a 16-run win in Twenty20 on Thursday.
After New Zealand medium pacer Blair Tickner took three wickets in the first four overs, the chasing Dutch felt the pressure to regularly hit and lose wickets.
They were running out 93-7 and big hitters after 73-6 and 16 in the 14th over.
Bass de Leede, who came to the crease after seven balls of the innings, was dismissed for 66 runs in 53 balls including five fours and two sixes in the last over.
De Leede also took two catches and bowled two relatively cheap overs.
But not like Tickner, who claimed 4-27 off 21 balls, and fellow medium pacer Ben Sears 3-22.
Opener Martin Guptill led New Zealand when it decided to bat first, scoring 45 off 36.
Jimmy Neesham added 32 off 17 but he scored 148-7 against Netherlands spinners Tim Pringle, Shariz Ahmed and Tom Cooper.
But it was enough in their second matchup and for the first time since 2014. The teams play the second and last T20 on Friday.
