As part of International Museum Day celebrations, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bengaluru, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organising an art workshop focused on Chittara, a traditional tribal art form from Karnataka.

The event will be held on Friday, May 30, at 11.30 a.m. at NGMA’s premises in Manikyavelu Mansion, Palace Road.

In a step towards inclusivity, the workshop is open to persons with disabilities as well as other participants. The initiative aims to bring art closer to diverse communities and promote awareness about indigenous art forms.

Chittara is a ritualistic folk art traditionally practiced by women of the Malnad region. Characterised by intricate geometric patterns drawn on red, mud-coated walls and floors, often as rangoli, it forms a vibrant part of the region’s cultural celebrations.
