N’Golo Kante reveals Chelsea players are shocked to learn of Roman Abramovich’s exit

Current Chelsea football club owner and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has decided to sell the Premier League team amid mounting pressure following Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has revealed that the team is in a state of shock after hearing about Abramovich’s decision as he did not expect it.

“It’s something we weren’t ready for [for]It arrived quickly,” he told Sky Sports News, as reported by talkSPORT.

The reaction is only natural as the Russian billionaire has owned the team for 19 years since 2003.

Abramovich decided to sell all his assets in England, including the team and their villa, because of the political pressure that was on him and other Russian oligarchs.

Labor MP Chris Bryan leaked a Home Office document from 2019 that revealed Abramovich’s close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin. In response, Senior Minister Mark Spencer said the government had already taken action against high-profile influential Russians who were a cause for concern. He said Downing Street would not take any action against Abramovich based on such leaked documents.

Meanwhile, Kante tells his teammates to focus on performing on the pitch rather than thinking about sales. He said that the only thing they can do is to always do the best they can, that is, play good football. He said that the players did not control things and hence should not be bothered by such situations.

Commenting on the Russia-Ukraine situation, Kante said that it was sad to see what was happening and hoped that it would be over as soon as possible.

The English team owned by Abramovich has won 5 Premier League titles and 2 Champions League trophies.

The English Premier League has also decided to show solidarity with Ukraine by taking some measures in all matches this weekend.
